Aromatherapy Burners – Scent Your Home Naturally

Candle HolderThe research has revealed that the indoor air quality is often worse than the quality of air outdoors. Frequent ventilation dramatically improves the quality of indoor air, however, it does not always remove the smell after cooking, pets and a mixture of fumes that are emitted by various items. An air freshener or deodorizer is not a solution of the problem either. On the contrary, it makes the indoor air quality even worse. It does create a pleasant smell but that smell is, unfortunately, a mixture of various hazardous chemicals some of which have even been shown to be carcinogens. If you want your home to smell good but do not want to expose yourself and your family to potentially toxic fumes, you should use an aromatherapy burner instead.

Aromatherapy burner enables you to scent your home all naturally because the delicate fragrance it emits is a vapour of water and essential oils which are heated by a tea candle placed beneath the oil holder. Unlike chemical air fresheners, essential oils are all natural aromatic compounds which are derived exclusively from plant material and do not pose any health risk. In addition to scenting your home, the fragrance of essential oils has also been shown to have a positive effect on the mood, emotions and cognitive function, while the alternative medicine uses them for therapeutic purposes. Health benefits of aromatherapy lack sufficient scientific evidence to justify its use, however, several essential oils have been shown to have antimicrobial properties which makes them useful for air purification.

Unlike commercial air fresheners which do not look particularly aesthetically appealing, aromatherapy burners are made with a great deal of attention to aesthetic appeal and are often highly decorative. They are available in many styles, shapes, designs and colours enabling you to use them as a decorative item at the same time.

It is highly important to keep in mind that essential oils are extremely concentrated and that it is not a good idea to have an aromatherapy burner lit all the time, especially around children. You are also recommended to choose organic essential oils if possible because there is some concern about pesticide residues in several types of essential oils. It remains unknown whether these residues pose any health risks but it is best not to take any chances.

Since aromatherapy burners involve the use of open fire, you are highly recommended to follow the standard fire safety measures such as keeping the burner away from flammable objects and out of reach to children. Also, never leave it unattended because the mixture of water and essential oil may evaporate before the candle is extinguished. This does not only pose a risk of damage to the burner but poses a risk of fire as well. When the water evaporates, either extinguish the candle or pour more water into the oil holder.
